Activities

Flinders Island is the largest of a group of 52 islands and offers a variety of fantastic experiences including walking trails, fishing, golfing, diving and fossicking.

Please browse below to view our pick of the best activities that Flinders Island has to offer.

1. Strzelecki Peaks

Listed as 1 of Tasmania's 60 great short walks, Strzelecki Peak towers above the beautiful coastline dotted with white sand beaches. The walk is approximately a 4-5 hour (5.6km) return trip with steep uphills. Be sure to pack jumpers and a wind breaker as it can be very cold and windy at the summit.

*Please refer to your maps with directions on how to get there.

2. Trousers Point

Another walking track listed as 1 of Tasmania's great short walks, the walk follows Trousers Point Beach which is probably Flinders Islands most renowned beach. The walk is a 1.5 hour (2km) circuit suitable for the family.

*Please refer to your maps with directions on how to get there.

3. Castle Rock

The last of our walking trails and another listed as 1 of Tasmania's great short walks, Castle Rock is located on the North-West coast and contains a giant granite boulder on the shoreline of Marshall Bay. The walk is 1.5 hours (6.6km) return trip and contains toilets, picnic tables and wood barbeques at nearby Allports Beach.

* Please refer to your maps with directions on how to get there.

Please also note that parks passes are required for all of the walks described above.

4. Fossick for Killiecrankie Diamonds

Fossick for the beautiful Killiecrankie Diamond. The best place to look for these diamonds is Mines Creek but topaz can also be found in Tanners Bay and Killiecrankie Bay, located on the northern end of Flinders Island. These can be collected by combing the beaches at low tide and digging and sieving the beach below the water mark, again, at low tide.

Please refer to your maps with directions on how to get there. For more information, contact the nearest information centre on Flinders Island.
